Gold Stars, Asante Kotoko share spoils in stalemate

Two title contenders in the Ghana Premier League, Bibiani Gold Stars and Asante Kotoko played out a goalless draw in a tense encounter at the Bibiani Dun’s Park yesterday, a result that favours league leaders Nations FC.

With only two matches left in the season, the draw leaves Gold Stars three points behind Nations FC, putting pressure on their remaining fixtures.

Both teams approached the match with caution, aware that a loss could severely dent their title hopes.

In a game played before a packed stadium, both sides created decent opportunities in the first half but failed to find the back of the net.

The match was marked by tactical discipline and strong defensive organisation from both camps.

Asante Kotoko looked more purposeful after the break, increasing their tempo in search of a breakthrough.

In the 68th minute, midfielder Amidu attempted to break the deadlock with a powerful shot, but his effort narrowly missed the target.

Gold Stars responded seven minutes from time with a promising move, but Kotoko’s goalkeeper, Mohammed Camara, produced a brilliant save to keep the hosts at bay.

Kotoko maintained pressure in the final stages of the game, earning two successive corner kicks by the 85th minute but failed to convert them into goals.

The most dramatic moment came in added time when Sampson Eduku appeared to have scored the match-winner for Kotoko.

However, his effort was ruled offside leaving the visitors and their supporters visibly disappointed.
