Happy FM and Lakeside Marina Park set March 6 for 16th Family Fun Run and Walk
Happy 98.9 FM, in partnership with Lakeside Marina Park, has officially launched the 16th edition of its annual Family Fun Run and Walk, marking the start of activities for one of Ghana’s longest-running community fitness events.
The launch took place at the Silver Star Tower in Accra on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, setting the tone for an event that has become synonymous with healthy living, family bonding and social impact.
Delivering the welcome address, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Global Media Alliance (GMA), Mr Ernest Boateng, described the occasion as “a celebration of endurance and purpose,” stressing that the initiative continues to promote healthy lifestyles while supporting vulnerable groups in society.
“This event champions healthy lifestyles and environmental sustainability while strengthening community bonds. Our partnership with the Mercy Social Centre continues to support essential services for underserved individuals,” he said.
Mr Boateng added that the Family Fun Run was about more than physical activity. “The event is not just about hitting the pavement; it’s about making a difference in the lives of young children at the Mercy Social Centre,” he noted.
He said the Happy FM and Lakeside Family Fun Run had, for more than 15 years, played a key role in encouraging families to adopt healthier lifestyles through regular exercise, while also fostering social responsibility and community engagement.
According to him, this year’s edition will feature 6km and 10km run and walk categories to cater for participants of varying fitness levels, reinforcing the inclusive nature of the event.
The Director of Lakeside Estates, Mr Salah Kalmoni, said the annual run had evolved into a strong platform for social change, with a particular focus on supporting children at the Mercy Social Centre.
“This annual 6km and 10km run and walk isn’t just about hitting the pavement; it is about making a difference in the lives of young children at the Mercy Social Centre. So, mark your calendars for March 6, 2026, and get ready to run, walk, and feel great,” Mr Kalmoni said.
He explained that the event was open to individuals, families and school teams, with registration fees set at GH₵100 for individuals, GH₵250 for families and GH₵400 for school teams, to encourage broad participation.
Marketing Manager of Lakeside Estate, Mr Isaac Ntiamoah, said the event also provided an opportunity to give back to the community while celebrating national pride. “The Family Fun Run serves as a way of giving back to the community as a lifestyle and as a way to celebrate Independence Day as well,” he said.
Registration forms are available at Happy FM at Asylum Down, Lakeside Marina Park, Silver Star Tower and the Global Media Alliance offices at Dzorwulu, with organisers urging early registration ahead of the March 6 event.
Participants will also have the chance to win prizes on the day, including electrical appliances, medals and souvenirs from sponsors, while staying connected through a virtual run club that allows runners to track their progress throughout the year.
The Happy FM and Lakeside Marina Park Family Fun Run is sponsored by YFM, Silver Star Tower, Japan Motors, Silver Star Auto Ltd, Silverbird Cinemas and Verna Mineral Water.
