Accra Hearts of Oak, aiming at their first Premier League title after five years, have launched a frantic bid for seasoned talents with former Ashgold striker, Yakubu Mohammed, expected to be their first major off season acquisition.

The burly striker is among several Ghanaian players whose frustrating careers in South Africa have compelled them to turn back to their home country to relaunch their careers.

Former Ghana goal king, Emmanuel Baffoe, whose goal scoring prowess two years ago illuminated the Ghanaian soccer scene set the trail, after failing to brave the perils of the South African football terrain and decided to return home to sign for Ashgold.

Mohammed,  Black Stars goalkeeper  Fatau Dauda and former Kumasi Asante Kotoko defender Awal Mohammed appear to be considering a similar move back home.

The Phobians, according to sources, have commenced talks with the striker who is currently clubless after South Afirca side, Marizburg, has released him.

But the player, who scored a couple of goals for Marizburg in the 2013/14 season, is also on the pre-season shopping list of his mother club, Ashgold, who sold him to the South Africa side for $150,000.

Kudjoe Fianoo, Ashgold CEO, confirming their interest in the player told the Graphic Sports yesterday that the Phobians appeared to have gone very far with the player who had also received some offers from some foreign clubs.
