Help GHA to seek sponsorship — Madam Safoah King
The treasurer of the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) , Madam Elizabeth Safoah King, has urged ex-female hockey stars to adopt and nurture young females interested in the sport.
That, she said, would entice young girls into the sport to develop their potentials.
Addressing participants in a seminar organised by the GHA to sensitise ex hockey stars and current players to contribute to the development of the sport, Madam King said lack of state support for hockey was undermining its development.
She said in recent times, the sports ministry had failed to provide any financial support for the GHA in both their local and international tournaments, hence, the need for the old stars to join hands in devising ways to keep hockey afloat.
She said that could be done if they collaborated with the GHA to source for sponsorship packages for their local and international tournaments, or they contributed cash and kind to help the association.
“You can also play a significant role in supporting the development of hockey by adopting and nurturing some of the young girls interested in hockey.”
“ The time has come for our old players to give back what they have gained from hockey. You have become what you are today because you played hockey, so adopting and nurturing some of our young girls who are gifted with raw skills will not only goad them on but will also galvanise them to play to the highest level,” Madam King noted.
