Indece Day tennis: Burma Camp beat Abuja team again

The Burma Camp Tennis Club (BCTC) were last Saturday crowned champions of the sixth edition of the international tennis friendly after defeating  Abuja-based Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida Tennis Club.

Parading a team of experienced players, the BCTC impressively defended the title they won a year ago at the clay courts of the Burma Camp  after winning four out of  the seven events  to lift the glittering trophy.

In the doubles event, Dr Ralph Ntumy  of Burma Camp teamed up with Alhaji Yussif Imani to win 5-2 against Nigeria’s Dr John Abhuere and Ossi Jones, while Dr Patrick Bankah joined forces with Major Nuru to win 7-2 against the Nigerian team of  Lawyer Ikani Agabi and Mr I. Chijioke.

Also in the singles category, Abeiku Bentsi of Burma Camp  defeated Tommy Nwakalor 7-3, Peter Annan of Burma Camp  (Grand Master) triumphed 7-1 over AVM Saliu Atawode, Major Nuke Addi beat I. Joe 7-1, while Nigeria’s Ikani Agabi thumped Dr Patrick Bankah 7-4.

Last Saturday’s win makes it four for the Ghanaians who have already won three out of five previous meetings.

The competition is played in the two capital cities each year to commemorate the independence anniversary of both Ghana and Nigeria. The next event in this year will come off in Abuja in October.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Chairman of the organising committee, Colonel John O. Kusseh, expressed appreciation to members of the club, as well as sponsors for their immense contributions  that had promoted the two sides to meet regularly.

The event was sponsored by CDH Financial Holdings, Baj Freight,  Kasapreko Company Limited and was supported by Ghana Commercial Bank, Guinness Ghana Limited, T T Brothers, Endela Logistics, Everpack Water and MTN Ghana.
