Independence Day Run 2026 rocks UG Stadium Saturday

The 2026 Independence Day National Run storms the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon this Saturday, March 7 with the "Rep your Ghana colours"edition, a patriotic inspired by Ghana's impeding participating at the FIFA World Cup in USA and Canada in June.

In alignment with Ghana's 69th Independence anniversary celebrations which falls, a day earlier, the race spanning 5 and 10 km categories is hosted by organisers of the annual Millennium Marathon in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

Over 2,000 partcipants are expected to run in the two caregories including CEOs of top corporate bodies, senior government officials and distinguished personalities, underscoring the national significance of the one-day event.

The race is also open to all running clubs, corporate organisations, students, churches and the general public, as the focus on national wellness, social unity, cultural pride, and long-term nationwide fitness consciousness is reempasized on Independence Weekend.

"The Independence Day Run/Walk aims to promote healthy living, unity and civic engagement through sport, whiles serving as an annual sporting highlight held on the Saturday following Ghana's Independence Day," noted a statement from the organisers.

The registration process for interested participants concluded at the end of February, one week ahead of the race, with participants now scheduled to pick up their race packs from today, March 2 through 6, 2026.
