Takyi, Lawson return on SEM bill on Independence Day
Highly rated world title prospects, Samuel "Ring Warrior" Takyi and Musah Rahman "Awoodade" Lawson take their respective first fights of the year against Togolese opponents on Independence Day, March 6 in Accra.
Takyi, 25, who has won all 8 career fights by stoppages including a round 2 TKO of Isaac Dowuona last December 29, is looking to make it win number 9 in a row against experienced Togolese boxer, Fatiou Sarouna in a lightweight 8-rounder in the co-headliner of the "Freedom and Justice Night" at the Cathedral Clinic, off the High Street in Accra presented by Sports, Education and Management (SEM) Promotions.
Also seeking to revive his global title ambitions is Lawson, 32, a former national amateur team captain and Ghana Prisons officer, as he comes up against Somabe Sylvester Simplice, also of Togo in a super welterweight 8-rounder, the Ghanaian champion's first fight since last September.
Meanwhile, former kickboxer Isaac "Jungle King" Commey will also be seeking to rebound from his New Year's knockout defeat to Henry Malm against Godwin Cudjoe, also a super welterweight 8-rounder on the national day.
In other fights, Joseph "Junior Bazooka" Antwi faces Felix Mankattah in a heavyweight contest, John Abeka Coffie versus Richard Ashong (heavyweight) and John Amebley against Justus Asare at super lightweight.
Set to also feature a host of juvenile exhibitions in a demonstration of SEM Promotions' commitment to youth and education, rising stars John Zile, Daniel Otoo and Moses Adjei Selvi are all also billed to fight against yet-to-be confirmed opponents on the "Freedom and Justice Night" on Friday.
