The competition, which is aimed at exposing weightlifting as a sporting discipline to as many school going kids as possible, is expected to attract about 40 young weightlifters representing various clubs across the country.

It is being sponsored by  Jay Kay Industries, Promasidor, Tweillium Industries, and Indomie Instant Noodles from Dufil Ghana and every school child who will be at the event is expected to go home with a hamper containing books, pencils, rulers among other products.

Some of the clubs expected to vie for honours include A1 Weightlifting Club, the Accra Titans Weightlifting Club, Purejoy Weightlifting club and the Migrants Weightlifting Club.

The Ghana Weightlifting Federation, (GWF) as part of its development programme, began training youth and junior lifters between the ages of eight and 17 years at the national weightlifting training centre to groom them to step into the shoes of the older lifters.

The programme, which was officially launched in January this year with DeUnited Foods, importers of Indomie noodles, as headline sponsors, will be preceded by a float through some selected streets of the nation’s capital.  The competition would also serve as grounds for talent identification for the technical committee of the GWF.

Indomie, has as part of its sponsorship package for the youth and development programme, been supporting the GWF with an annual sponsorship of GH₵20,000 and GH₵10,000 worth of products.
