Lepowura M.N.D Jawula

Jawula denies Konadu’s endorsement

Former chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Lepowura M.N.D Jawula, has denied recommending Coach Maxwell Konadu to lead the Black Stars to AFCON 2015 in Equatorial Guinea.

According to Alhaji Jawula, he rather prefers Konadu to serve Grant as a deputy so he could add to his store of knowledge under the experienced Israeli trainer.

The former GFA boss described as inaccurate a comment which was attributed to him by a Ghanaweb.com story carried in yesterday’s issue of the Daily Graphic.

Jawula was quoted as being in favour of Konadu’s appointment alongside former Black Stars skipper, Joe Addo, on GTV’s ‘Sunday Night Live’ live programme.

‘It is not accurate as far as what I said is concerned. I remember clearly Joe Addo supporting the move to have Konadu continue. Ghanaweb said both Joe and I were in favour but that’s not accurate,’ he noted.

‘What I said was that I was finding it difficult to be forthright because is like a son.’

‘I brought him to RTU from Upper West Heroes and introduced him to the then First Division but I will be comfortable to see Konadu serve with Grant as a deputy so that he could add to his store of knowledge under Grant,’ he revealed.

“I added that I know Konadu for his humility so that shouldn’t be a real problem, I suppose.’

The FA Cup Committee (FACC) chairman also recalled that he stressed that it would be beneficial for Ghana if potential coaches such as Didi Dramani, David Duncan and C.K. Akunnor could join the Avram Grant team as assistants to cut down on the possibility of spending money to train local coaches abroad.

He said apart from the bit on AFCON 2015, a wide range of issues regarding Ghana Football were discussed on the programme.
