Junior Tennis League heats up
The National Junior Tennis League, which began a fortnight ago, recorded great results last Saturday with players from the Stadium B Tennis Club garnering a lot of points in the various categories.
About 100 juvenile players drawn from eight tennis clubs in Accra, including the Atomic Tennis Club, Korle-Bu Tennis Club, Accra Lawn Tennis Club, Ghana Tennis Club at Adabraka, 37 Army Officers Mess Tennis Club and Baboo Sports Academy, are participating in the games for boys and girls in the Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 categories at the tennis arena of the Accra Sports Stadium.
The league, which is sponsored by the Tennis Foundation Ghana (TFG), saw the Stadium Club, Baboo Sports Academy and the Atomic Club winning many events on the day to take the lead on the league log.
In the Boys Under-12 Division, Aaron Armah from Stadium B defeated Kaneshie’s Derrick Boateng 4-0, 4-0, while Julius Quaye won 4-2, 4-2 against Hakim Ayouba.
Stadium B also won the Under-12 Doubles Event after Aaron Armah joined forces with Daniel Larbi to beat Sedem Bossman and Kelvin Bossman of Kaneshie 4-0, 4-0.
Bright Nortey triumphed 4-0, 4-1 over Augustus Tetteh in the Under-14 Category before combining beautifully with Caleb Ayertey to defeat Hakim Ayouba and Augustus Tetteh 4-1, 4-1 in the Doubles Event.
David Alabo saved the day for the Kaneshie Tennis Club as he emerged winner of the Boys Under-16 Division after beating Phillip Darko 5-3, 4-1.
In the other Under-12 games, Atomic’s Kingsley Danso won 5-3, 4-0 over Herbert Doe Adjani, while Richmond Acheampong beat Imoran Akosowah 4-2, 4-0.
The boys from the 37 Tennis Club lost to Atomic in the Under 12 Singles, Herbert Doe-Adjani was defeated by Kingsley Kwaku Danso 3-5, 0-4 while Richmond Acheampong beat Imoran Akosowah 4-2, 4-0.
Michael Adjei also claimed victory for the Atomic Club after winning 4-0, 4-0 against Stephen Lamptey in the Boys Under-14 Event, while Abubakar Lea Yakubu had a walkover due to the absence of his opponent.
The 10-week league, which is sanctioned by the Ghana Tennis Federation, was established to unearth and nurture budding talents in the country.
