Kudus: I want to make big impact at Spurs
Mohammed Kudus loves to entertain – and is determined to show it and make a big impact when he takes to the pitch in the colours of Tottenham Hotspur.
The reigning Ghana Footballer of the Year joined Spurs from West Ham last Thursday in a £55m move, putting pen to paper on a long-term contract after an all-action two-year stint at the London Stadium.
A two-time Eredivisie winner with Ajax earlier in his career, the forward certainly knows how to make an impact, and he says he’s eager to do just that after moving across the capital.
“It feels great to be here, I’m very happy and can’t wait to start,” said the 24-year-old star. “I’m a very direct winger, strong, very good at taking players on and creating chances, so there is a lot of flair in my game.
“I’m very team-oriented, so my personal goals are around helping the team get as many points as we can, to be as high as we can in the Premier League and perform really well and go as far as we can in the UEFA Champions League.”
Kudus is no stranger to sitting at European football’s top table. He made nine Champions League appearances across three campaigns for Ajax between 2020 and 2022, notably scoring four goals in six group stage games in the latter year, and says he’s excited to return to the competition with us in 2025/26.
“I know how big the club is, the history, and I’ve always wanted to play at the highest level in the Champions League as well, so it’s a big moment for me,” he added.
“I think the Champions League is one of the biggest stages in football. I’ve played a couple of games at Ajax, so I have a bit of history and I know it’s top-level football and it requires a lot of quality and focus throughout the whole game, so I’m just hoping to use my individual ability to help the team go as far as we can.”
"Kudus can add attacking threat to Spurs either from the right flank, cutting inside, or from a more central position," explains former West Ham assistant Edu Rubio.
"He is very versatile and, like Bryan Mbuemo, who became a very effective and important player for Thomas Frank at Brentford, can add goals, pace and work-rate when pressing high.
"Kudus can add an aggressive high-press style, since his approach to closing down the man on the ball is exceptional. He is rapid, intense and effective with it. He can add goals to the squad, too.
The handlers see their latest signing as a game-changer, and they will expect a lot from the Ghanaian in their domestic and continental competitions, especially with the talented star offering offensive options in new boss Thomas Frank’s 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 formations. The Spurs manager’s desire to have quick and direct attacks when possible was also key to his decision to make Kudus the club’s first signing this summer.
"Overall, he can add goals, work-rate off the ball, uniqueness and pour desire and character into the squad. He is a very exciting player."
Kudus, who joined Spurs after two impactful seasons at West Ham United, said what he enjoys most about the Premier League is its intensity and competitiveness.
“There are no easy games here, regardless of where the opposition is at. There’s no time to relax which makes every game competitive, interesting, and that’s what I love about the league and why I am here. We want to enjoy every game, have the atmosphere and get the fans off their seats as well,” he stated.
Born and raised in Nima, a suburb of Accra, Kudus began his football development with Strong Tower FC and the Right to Dream Academy before securing a move to Europe at age 17. His professional career began in Denmark with FC Nordsjaelland, followed by a standout stint with Dutch giants Ajax, where he won two Eredivisie titles and a KNVB Cup.
He moved to West Ham in 2023 and quickly adapted to the Premier League, scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists in 65 appearances.
