Liberty shock Hearts in Accra

A 19th-minute goal from the foot of Liberty Professionals’  Issa Mohammed deflated  Accra Hearts of Oak, the favourites, yesterday in their Week 14 outstanding Premier League match at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The match was the second of  Hearts games played behind closed doors as  punishment for the rowdy scenes recorded at the Accra Sports Stadium in their match against Wa All Stars. The Phobians will  play their subsequent home games in front of their home fans.

Liberty, from the blast of Referee Joseph Lamptey’s whistle, looked more hungry with dimunitive Latif Blessing posing a lot of problems for the Hearts defence.  The Dansoman lads kept probing for the opener with some delightful passes amid applause from the few spectators at the stadium and their dominance paid off when a through pass from Edward Ebo Mensah was pushed beyond the reach of goalkeeper Samuel Akurugu by Issa Mohammed in the 19th minute to break the deadlock.

Hearts came into the second half with Paul Acquah and Sabahn Laryea replacing Isaac Mensah and Eric Kumi and later Foovi Aguidi for Cosmos Dauda. The inclusion of the trio brought some urgency in the Hearts attack with the Phobians pinning Liberty into their area for the greater part of the game.

But foward Sam Yeboah either shot wide or was held in check by the resolute Liberty defence built around Samuel Sarfo, who had a great game.
