Majeed Waris joins Strasbourg on loan

Ghana striker Majeed Waris has joined Ligue 1 side Strasbourg on a six-month loan with an obligation to buy from Portuguese giants FC Porto.

Waris, who has been without regular playing time this season and frozen out at Porto, will be bought at the end of this loan spell for €2m, at which point he will sign an initial two-year contract with RCSA.

Strasbourg are the fourth Ligue 1 club the 28-year-old will be representing — having played for Valenciennes, FC Lorient and FC Nantes — where he netted 5 goals in 33 matches across all competitions.

To date, the Ghanaian international (31 caps, 4 goals) has played a total of 105 Ligue 1 games for 35 goals and 12 assists.

"I am very happy to come to Racing," Waris said in an interview with the Strasbourg website.

"It was my priority to come back to France. Strasbourg is a club I know. Loic Désiré (the recruitment manager) and Racing have been following me for several months. I recently faced Strasbourg with FC Nantes. There is an incredible atmosphere in the stadium and I want to live great moments with the audience of the Meinau. I hope to bring my qualities to a team that already has very good strikers. I know Kenny Lala with whom I played at Valenciennes and Lamine Koné who was my teammate at Lorient. I am delighted to meet my friend Alexander Djiku with whom I shared the holidays in Ghana. I can't wait for it to start but also to discover this beautiful city of Strasbourg”.
