Medeama off to DR Congo

A contingent of players and officials of the Medeama Sporting Club were scheduled to leave for DR Congo last night to engage TP Mazembe in an Orange CAF Confederation Cup Group A opener in Lubumbashi on Sunday.

Medeama pitched camp at  WAFA’s base at Sogakope last Tuesday to enable the players to familiarise themselves with the astro , which is similar to the pitch at the Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi.

That was after defeating Techiman City 2-0 at the Tarkwa and Aboso park earlier in the day to leap-frog to the fifth position on the Premier League table with 26 points, same as Hearts of Oak, Aduana Stars and Kotoko, who are all trailing Wa All Stars at the top.

Ghana’s sole continental pride will be led by their new coach, Prince Owusu, who has won two straight league victories since his appointment a few weeks ago.

Medeama managed to squeeze water out of stone to make the trip despite the financial difficulties they went through in the absence of their share of CAF’s sponsorship package for the money zone.

The club is determined to ensure a good start on Sunday in the face of tough opposition, to keep their title hopes alive.
