MP satisfied with fans’ accommodation

A Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency and chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee for Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr Kobena Mensah Woyome, has described living conditions at the Ghana village in Natal, Brazil, as the best for the over 500 supporters living in that facility.

Mr Woyome made the observation during an inspection tour at the Mardunas Hotel and Events Centre last Friday in the company of a Ranking Member, Boniface A. Gambila, MP for Nabdam Constituency.

He noted that contrary to media reports that living conditions at the camp were deplorable, his visit revealed an entirely different picture as the supporters lived in a very serene environment with good accommodation and food to boot.

“What we have seen shows an entirely different picture; food, accommodation and logistics are fantastic,” he noted.

Mr Woyome said interactions with the caterers revealed that they were doing their best in the circumstance as most of their food items they carried from Ghana were seized at the Natal airport. “Our interaction with the caterers revealed that most of their food items were seized at the airport, leaving them with no choice but to make do with what they have because they lack some spices which they cannot easily get on the local market,” he noted.

“They need to be commended rather for keeping the camp running. By all standards this is one of the best so we just have to educate the supporters and get them to understand the issues.”

Mr Gambila also rated conditions at the village as near perfect since despite the fact that the facility is quite distant from the city the supporters are living in air-conditioned rooms, eat twice a day and have a spacious dining hall and common halls where they watch matches.
