With just under three weeks to the grand flag-off of the 2025 Tour du Ghana, corporate Ghana is rallying behind the country’s flagship cycling event like never before.
Telecommunications powerhouse MTN Ghana and banking giant Stanbic Bank are among the top-tier brands throwing their weight behind the 12-day championship — a show of patriotism and growing corporate confidence in Ghana’s emerging sports economy.
The much-anticipated competition, which runs from November 13–24, has already secured Dot.Ateliers — the Accra-based artist residency and creative hub — as its headline sponsor, while MTN, Stanbic Bank, and MDK Ghana lead a host of new partners joining forces with the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) to make this year’s edition the biggest yet.
The race, expected to feature 172 cyclists from 12 international clubs, representing eight countries across five continents, will traverse the Greater Accra, Volta, Oti, and Eastern regions, showcasing Ghana’s diverse terrain, culture and tourism potential.
Modelled on the iconic Tour de France, which generates hundreds of millions of dollars annually for France’s economy, this year’s Tour du Ghana aims to position the country as Africa’s premier cycling and sports tourism destination.
Beyond corporate Ghana’s growing support, the event is also being backed by an impressive list of institutional partners, including the Black Stars Experience, the Ministry of Tourism, the Village Bicycle Project, the Bahati Foundation, and the African Cycling Network Satellite (ACNS).
To further enhance the race’s identity, organisers will unveil a new Tour du Ghana logo ahead of the event — a design said to symbolise motion, unity, heritage and modernity, reflecting both the dynamism of the sport and Ghana’s cultural pride.
“The event will showcase the country’s scenic landscapes, promote tourism, and highlight the economic benefits that come with hosting world-class sporting events. We’re deeply grateful for the support of major brands such as MTN, Stanbic Bank, and MDK Ghana.
This is the right direction for Ghanaian sports, and we hope more companies come on board to help us stage a truly global event,” the General Secretary of the Ghana Cycling Federation, Shaaban Mohammed, said in an interview with Graphic Sports.
National pride, Global ambition
The 2025 Tour du Ghana will be officially flagged off by President John Mahama, underscoring the government’s renewed commitment to sports development, youth empowerment and national pride.
The race will open with a prologue from the Osu Castle to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, followed by seven road race stages across the participating regions, each designed to test endurance, teamwork and tactical brilliance while thrilling fans lining the roads in vibrant local communities.
