New body to run amputee soccer
The Ghana Paralympic Committee has appointed a seven-member committee to run amputee soccer and oversee its growth and development nationwide.
A former president of the Amputee Soccer Federation, Reverend Richard Nii Amartey Adesah, will chair the committee with Wisdom Yamenui as his vice.
The rest are Theordor Viwortor (Secretary) Abu Issah Monie( Public Relations Officer) with Kofi Ayew, Kuuku Dsane and James Adjetey Adjei as members.
The committee was proposed following a stakeholders meeting last Wednesday that resolved to expand amputee soccer to other regions.
Bishop Cornelius Adja Cofie, president of the Ghana Federation for Disabled Sports and Ghana Paralympic Committee, charged the team to work assiduously to make amputee soccer a national past time.
Meanwhile, Yetsa Tuakli, a US-based Ghanaian media practitioner has been appointed onto the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Medical Committee.
Ms. Tuakli, will serve for four years subject to annual ratification by the IPC Governing Body.
A letter sent to the secretariat of the Ghana Paralympic Committee (GPC) said the decision was taken at last month’s meeting of the IPC held in Bonn, Germany.
Ms. Tuakli is a Sports Medicine practitioner and Interventional Spine Physician, with vast knowledge in nerve injuries and common orthopaedic conditions.
Her presence on the board is expected to promote disability sports in Ghana.
