NSA gives 14 disciplines green light

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has cleared 14 individual non-contact sports to resume training sessions in line with Presidential directives.

All sporting activities were suspended by the NSA following a directive on March 15 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo suspending social gathering and sporting events when Ghana recorded its first COVID-19 case.

Clearance

In his broadcast last Sunday to ease some of the restrictions, President Akufo-Addo said individual non-contact sports could resume activities.

Subsequently, the NSA issued a statement yesterday indicating that sporting disciplies such as athletics, badminton, table tennis, tennis, golf, power lifting, weightlifting, cycling, draughts, para sports, rowing and canoeing, baseball and softball, horse racing and squash were all cleared to resume individual training sessions.

The statement, signed by the Public Relations Officer of the NSA, Mr Charles Amofa, however, barred competitive sporting events and games from taking place until further notice.

Contact sports still banned

“However, competitive sporting events and games still remain suspended till further notice,” it added.

Meanwhile, activities with regard to team, contact sports, including football, hockey and volleyball, among others, have been suspended till July 31.
