Olympics release Clottey, seven others

Premier League side Great Olympics have parted ways with experienced striker Emmanuel Clottey and seven other players for poor performance less than halfway into the season.

Clottey is joined by goalkeeper Ernest Sowah, experienced defender Godfred Saka, Aminu Mohammed, Moro Iddrisu, Isaac Gyamfi, Ashittey Ollenu and Ayuba Nelson.

The CEO of Olympics, Mr Olloboi Commodore, explained to the Daily Graphic that the club's management dispensed with the eight players by "mutual termination" of their contracts.

Disappointing performance

Clottey, who joined the Wonder Club at the beginning of the season amid high expectation, has failed to live up to his former reputation as a scoring sensation when he first featured for the club between 2004 and 2009, during which he won the Goal-king title in the 2007 league season.

The much travelled striker, 32, has scored just twice (Olympics' 4-3 win against King Faisal on February 5) with no assist in 10 appearances this season for Olympics which lie ninth on the league log.

Right-back Saka, who joined Olympics as a free agent five months ago, has featured in four matches this season and just recovered from an injury picked up when his side defeated Ebusua Dwarfs 2-0 in Accra last month.

Sowah joined Olympics from Asante Kotoko with a huge reputation to solve the club's goalkeeping problems but the shot stopper has played second fiddle to Joshua Opoku and manned the post in just four matches of which Olympics won just once.
