Police Ladies crowned Champion of Champions
Police Ladies capped a remarkable season with a commanding 2-0 victory over Faith Ladies to lift the 2025 Women’s Champion of Champions title at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram last Saturday.
The much-anticipated showdown between the 2024/25 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League champions and the Women’s FA Cup holders lived up to its billing, serving up an entertaining contest brimming with intensity, tactical discipline, and flashes of brilliance.
Police Ladies took control from the onset, dictating the pace and pinning their opponents deep. Yet, the resilience of Faith Ladies’ backline, marshalled by the impressive goalkeeper Annabel Bansah, kept the champions at bay for much of the opening half-hour.
Their resistance was finally broken in the 33rd minute. From a well-taken corner, defender Philicity Asuako soared above everyone to head home powerfully, sparking wild celebrations among the Police Ladies bench and faithful.
Faith Ladies, who had hoped to rally in the second half, found themselves chasing shadows as Police Ladies tightened their grip on the match.
The champions’ dominance was rewarded in the 72nd minute when Deborah Afriyie pounced on a loose ball to fire home and double the lead, effectively sealing the contest.
Even a late booking for Henrietta Kwayisibea Addo could not dampen Police Ladies’ commanding display as they saw out the game with composure and professionalism, keeping a clean sheet to underline their superiority.
The final whistle confirmed Police Ladies as the undisputed queens of Ghanaian women’s football, proudly adding the Champion of Champions trophy to their league triumph.
