Rio 2016: Janet Amponsah places sixth in women's 200m heat

Ghanaian sprinter Janet Amponsah finished sixth in the 200 metres Heat 4 of the 2016 Olympic Games currently ongoing in Brazil.

She crossed the finish line in a time of 23.67 seconds.

Janet, 23, placed sixth out of eight athletes in the competitive Heat that was won by Ivorian Marie-Josee Ta Lou.

The Ivorian was joined by Jamaican 100m gold winner Elaine Thompson as the only automatic qualifiers for the semi-finals on Wednesday. 

Janet's disappointing display continues a poor run for Ghana at the 2016 Olympics.

Seven Ghanaian athletes including swimmers Abeiku Jackson and Kaya forson as well as judoka Sandra Szogedi, weightlifter Christian Amoah, Flings Owusu-Agyapong, Sean Safo-Antwi and Alex Amankwah have already exited the competition.
