Shattered dreams at Dawu

Excellent goalkeeping skills, quality football, tight security and good spectatoring were the interesting scenes that characterised last Wednesday’s Ghana Premier League (GPL) week eight cracker between Dreams FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Dawu Stadium.

The game, which ended 1-0 in favour of the Porcupine Warriors, courtesy Dauda Mohammed’s strike under a minute, gave the visitors their first away league victory which incidentally ended Dreams FC’s unbeaten home run.

It was a feeling of disappointment after referee Ali Alhassan blew his whistle as frustrated Dreams players broke down on the turf in dejection after putting up a good fight.

It was another display of resilience on the part of Coach C.K. Akonnor’s boys, but a great  teamwork and resolute defending by Kotoko denied them the opportunity to equalise, despite coming in strongly in the second half and creating several chances.

The victory gave Kotoko, who pitched camp at Akropong two days before the game, three wins in three games under acting coach, Michael Osei.

Unfortunately, most fans who thronged the Dawu Stadium were disappointed as they could not afford the hiked gate fees.

In Accra, Hearts similarly had their dream shattered as WAFA held them to a 1-1 draw after the Phobians were denied a goal by referee Samuel Gyasi as captured below.

The goal scored by striker Ibrahim Musah in the 56th minute would have changed the course of the game.
