Otumfuo’s words working magic on us — Kotoko skipper

Kumasi Asante Kotoko skipper, Amos Frimpong, says the secret behind the Porcupine Warriors recent performances can be traced to the talks the Life Patron of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, had with the playing body.

He told the Graphic Sports in a post-match interview last Wednesday after Kotoko had secured a famous 1-0 victory over Dreams FC at Dawu that the recent meeting with the Asantehene was inspiring and always guided them in their last three matches.

Barely three weeks ago, the Asantehene, the owner of Kotoko, alarmed over the abysmal showings of the club paid the team a surprise visit at training and later held a seperate meeting with the playing body.

“The words of Otumfuo have been our main  driving force  and New Edubiase will  certainly be our next victims on Sunday” he said.

Frimpong disclosed that he and his teammates were motivated after the meeting with Otumfuo and trained hard to redeem their image after disappointing their fans at the start of the league.

“We did not expect to see him (Otumfuo) come all the way to the training grounds. Normally, we would have been invited to Manhyia but seeing him come to the training grounds meant things were really bad.

“We all got worried and we had to act quickly,” the Kotoko skipper recounted.

“Even before we came to Dawu, he called us on our personal phones to motivate us to perform and trust me, we reflected on his words and I think it was what helped us beat Dreams here  at Dawu,” Frimpong added.
