The reception, which will be held at the AKNAC hotel at East Legon in Accra, forms part of the sixth annual worldwide celebration of the founder of the Special Olympics movement, Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

The celebration, dubbed Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day, recognises the immense contributions of the founder which led to international advocacy for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities.

Concerned about the isolation of persons with intellectual disabilities from society, Kennedy Shriver - a sister to John F. Kennedy - advocated that sports was the only discipline that could build confidence and skills among such special persons.

She, therefore, founded Special Olympics as a vehicle to bring the potentials and skills of such persons to the fore.

Briefing the Daily Graphic on the celebration, the Acting Board Chairman of Special Olympics Ghana, Nana Wereko-Ampem, said Princess Ayin of Battor Special School, Isaac Otchere of Dzorwulu Special School, Latiff Toufick of Garden City Special School and Victoria Obeng of Aboom Special School in Cape Coast who participated in the world games would be honoured tomorrow.

He disclosed that aside organising special games for invitees, there would also be a health screening to be supervised by medical doctors and nurses from the Police Hospital.
