Swimming: Ghana to host Africa Zone 2 Championships
GHANA will host the 2024 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Junior and Senior Swimming Championships at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra next week.
The annual competitions for West and Central African countries return to Ghana for the third time from October 7-9, but this will be the first time the West African country will stage a combined event for junior and senior categories after successfully hosting the Juniors tournament in 2020 and 2023.

Events up for competition are the Seniors, Juniors and the first-ever Masters swimming championships, all at the Aquatic Centre inside the Borteyman Complex.
With a field of about 20 countries battling for medals in various categories, both male and female, all times recorded at this championship will be officially recognised by World Aquatics.
Confirmed participating countries include Ghana, of course, Nigeria, Togo, Senegal, Gabon, Guinea, Niger, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Guinea Bissau, Cameroun, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, and Gambia, among others.
Meanwhile, Team Ghana will be represented by a total of 20 swimmers in both categories of the various events, ranging from 50-1500m when the gun sounds at the Acquatics Centre on Monday.
"All the swimmers are preparing very well and will be ready to make Ghana proud. Our expectation is to increase our medal count from the 28 we had in Senegal in 2022," said Farida Iddriss, the Vice President of Africa Acquatics Zone 2 who is also the Treasurer of the Ghana Swimming Association.
