Tennis: ‘Top 8 Hitters’ Tourney begins today

Eight selected players from the Accra Lawn Tennis Club (ALTC), who also play for the national tennis team, will face- off in the first ever “Douglas Djabeng Top 8 Hitters Tournament” from today to Friday. The games begin at 4p.m.

The players namely Daniel Quartey, Joshua Annan, Benjamin Palm, Samuel Adotei, Bernard Ashietey Armaah, Isaac Dapaah, Emmanuel Quarcoo and Alex Kuma, aged between 20 and 25, will battle for the trophies and cash prizes at stake.

The event, which is solely sponsored by Lawyer Douglas Djabeng, a former chairman of the ALTC, who also previously served as chairman of the Division One League Board, is aimed at helping the players to be in shape as the nation gets ready for the Rio Olympic Games in August.

Mr Djabeng told the Daily Graphic last Friday that he was inspired by the potentials and skills exhibited by the players, who used to work as ball boys at the club, to organise the tourney for them.
