The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has assured the Black Queens of the unwavering support of the government and the Ghanaian people as they prepare to begin their 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign against Cape Verde today.
During a morale-boosting visit to the team's training session in Morocco, the Minister conveyed messages of encouragement on behalf of the Executive, Parliament and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, assuring the players that the nation believes in their ability to make Ghana proud.
"I bring you warm greetings and the unwavering support of the Executive and Parliament. The whole nation is behind you, believing in your talent and your ability to make Ghana proud," he told the team.
Mr Adams urged the players to compete with courage, unity and determination, reminding them that they carry the hopes of millions of Ghanaians every time they step onto the pitch.
He also challenged the Black Queens to build on their impressive performance at the previous WAFCON by aiming even higher this time, describing the tournament as an opportunity to inspire a new generation and write another memorable chapter in Ghana's football history.
"This tournament is your stage to inspire a generation. You have been here before last year and you performed. We are back to do it again and even better than last year. Go out there, compete fearlessly and show Africa the true spirit of the Black Queens."
The Minister commended the players and technical team for their dedication during preparations and expressed confidence that their hard work would translate into a successful campaign when Ghana opens its Group D campaign against Cape Verde.
Ghana has been drawn in Group D alongside Cape Verde, Cameroon and Mali.
