Thousands hit streets for FNB Accra Marathon

Ghana’s capital will come alive tomorrow morning as elite long-distance runners and thousands of fitness enthusiasts hit the streets for the 2025 First National Bank (FNB) Accra Marathon, a grand festival of endurance returning with a refreshing new format aimed at boosting participation while keeping the competitive spirit intact.

The marathon fever grips Accra annually, drawing runners of all ages and backgrounds in a vibrant mix of passion, perseverance and pride.

The city’s streets transform into a sea of motion, as spectators line the route, chanting and cheering runners towards the finish line at the iconic Dansoman Keep Fit Club grounds.

Three-decade legacy

Billed as Ghana’s ultimate running carnival, this year’s FNB Accra Marathon marks a bold evolution of an event that boasts more than three decades of rich history, tracing its roots to the pioneering Dansoman Keep Fit Club.

Tomorrow’s spectacle begins with the Junior Run from the Bukom Boxing Arena at 6:30 a.m., followed by the Corporate Run just 15 minutes later for companies and groups eager to join the fun.

The main event, the flagship 21km Half Marathon, will take off at 7:00 a.m., setting the stage for a thrilling chase through the city, culminating in a colourful celebration with dignitaries led by the CEO of First National Bank, Warren Adams; and Dansoman Keep Fit Club chief, Benjamin Alulu, as well as cheering fans awaiting the champions.

All eyes will be on defending champions Joyce Ayaaba and David Nakousi, the University of Ghana student who stole the show last year.

But with a new wave of challengers eager to make their mark, both titles are up for grabs, and tomorrow’s race promises plenty of fireworks.

From its modest beginnings, the FNB Accra Marathon has evolved into  — a celebration of health, unity and community spirit. It continues to inspire generations of Ghanaians, from seasoned professionals to first-time joggers, to lace up their trainers, push their limits, and be part of an extraordinary adventure for prizes, bragging rights and pure fun.
