Vision FC coach set Top 4 target in GPL debut season
Nana Kweku Agyemang, head coach of new Ghana Premier League side, Vision FC is so delighted with their good start in the Ghanaian top flight that he has started dreaming big.

Following a goalless stalemate at home in their opening fixture of their debut season in the top league last week, Vision FC marched unto the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday afternoon to score in each half to inflict a 2-0 defeat on last season’s runners-up, Accra Lions.
New signing from Tano Bofoakwa, Elijah Appiah struck in the 44th minute to become the first to net a top flight goal for the Tema based side, before captain Emmanuel Kyei Baffour wrapped up their first ever three points with the clinching goal 4 minutes from time, sparking club CEO, Michael Osekre into exhibiting his dancing skills in the stands.
The victory skyrocketed the new Ghana Premier League boys to second spot on the table due to a better goal difference over all of Berekum Chelsea, Kpando Heart of Lions and another new entrant, Basake Holy Stars who have also amassed 4 points each after two games and are two points shy of leaders on maximum points, Medeama SC.
“It’s a great performance and a fantastic result, all kudos to the boys for playing to instructions and staying focused tbroughout the 90 minutes. It is a very important result,” Coach Agyemang said post-match.
“We are delighted to get our first win on the board but my aim is to finish in the top 4 at the end of the season. I believe in the talents of these players and I believe we can do it,” the 46 year old added.
A graduate of the University of Calgary in Canada, Agyemang took over the helm at Vision FC from his now assistant, Hamza Obeng who had executed their historic promotion after topping their Division One League zone last term but did not possess the requisite papers to manage in the top league.
Agyemang, a CAF License A and UEFA License B holder who also previously served as assistant coach of the national U-17 team, Black Starlets, has so settled in quickly at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex that his own dreams now far outweigh the targets that were set for him on appointment back in June.

“Finishing in the top 4 is my ambition, not the club’s ambition. For the club, when I signed my contract, I was mandated to develop the players. The club is not about winning the league or to topple others but mainly about developing the players. We want to develop these players so they can become national assets, that many get called up to the U-17, U-20 and of course the senior national team,” Coach Kweku Agyeman explained.
“It is my personal ambition to get the club in the top 4 and that’s exactly what I will do. It’s always a big plus for a coach’s CV if it happens but the CEO or any management member is not pushing me to get the club there,” he emphasised.
Meanwhile, the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League continues without abatement as all 18 teams get in action on Sunday when Vision FC host struggling Legon Cities who are still without a point after falling to Bibiani Gold Stars and Medeama so far.
