Volta Athletics Championship to unveil regional talent
The Volta and Oti Regions are set to host the inaugural Volta Athletics Championship, an initiative aimed at fostering youth participation in sports and nurturing future athletic talent.
Organised by Enzee Events, the championship will take place between March and June 2025, featuring a range of track and field events.
Bringing together over 1,000 athletes, the competition will not only provide a platform for young talents to showcase their abilities but also include coaching development sessions to equip athletes, coaches, and officials with best practices in athletics.
Project Manager of the championship, Eldee Sefadzi, highlighted the long-term vision of the initiative, stating: “We are excited to host this inaugural event, which will showcase the athletic talent within the Volta Region. Our objective is to establish a sustainable platform for athletics development, and we see this championship as a crucial step toward that goal.”
The championship is expected to receive strong support from key stakeholders, including the Ghana Athletics Association, DDP Outdoors, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and Hon. Emmanuel Bedzrah, MP for Ho-West. A launch ceremony is scheduled for March 27 to officially kick off the event.
Togbe Gobo Dake, Chief of Tsito Awudome, underscored the significance of the initiative, stating: “For too long, many gifted athletes in our communities have lacked the opportunities and support needed to excel. This initiative will not only promote athletics but also inspire a new generation to embrace sports as a pathway to personal and professional growth.”
Enzee Events, a leading event management company in Ghana, is spearheading the championship. With a strong track record that includes the successful organisation of the 1st African Paralympic Games 2023 and the 13th African Games, the company aims to deliver a well-structured and impactful competition that will leave a lasting legacy for athletics in the Volta and Oti Regions.
