WAFA joins Liberty Professional to withdraw from Division One League
West Africa Football Academy Sporting Club (WAFA SC) have withdrawn from the Access Bank Division One League (DOL).
The former Premier League side who was demoted to the lower tier league last season have decided to take the as a result of a change in policy direction.
Their decision comes a few months after Liberty Professionals also took similar decision when they announced their withdrawal from the lower tier league to focus on player development.
A statement by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) which announced WAFA’s withdrawal said the team wish to focus on talent development through the academy system in the Volta Region.
The FA however said it was working under its Statute to find a replacement and urge teams playing in the Division One and Two Leagues to take note.
“The Executive Council of GFA in the coming days will exercise its power under Article 78 of the GFA Statutes to find a replacement for WAFA in the Access Bank Division One League, Zone 2 in light of the established precedents”, the statement noted.
