Wailers FC crowned champions of 2024 Bowmarie Football Gala  

In a dramatic conclusion to the 2024 Bowmarie Football Gala, Wailers FC emerged victorious over Rex Academy in a tense penalty shootout to clinch the championship title. 

The exhilarating final, held at the Kpandai Town Park, ended 3-1 in favour of Wailers FC after regulation time concluded with a pulsating 3-3 draw.  

The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams creating and missing numerous opportunities during regulation time. When the final whistle blew, the score was locked at 3-3, setting the stage for a high-stakes penalty shootout.

Wailers FC and Rex Academy each had five attempts during the shootout, with Rex Academy missing two of their chances and Wailers FC missing just one. 

Danla Greatness of Wailers FC, who delivered an exceptional performance throughout the match, was deservedly named the Player of the Match.  

Awards and recognitions  

The football gala featured 11 participating teams, including Bawmarie FC, Winco FC, Samba Boys FC, Bayern Munich FC, Puma FC, Wounded Lions FC, White Lions FC, and Meme Young Stars FC.  

Outstanding players were recognised for their contributions to the tournament:
  
- Best Player: Prosper Manyina (Rex Academy)  
- Best Goalkeeper: Malik Yakubu (Puma FC, Ketiejeli)  
- Goals King: Danla Greatness (Wailers FC)  

The champions, Wailers FC, were awarded a trophy, a set of jerseys, footballs, and a cash prize of GH₵300. The runners-up, Rex Academy, received a set of jerseys and GH₵200, while the third-place team walked away with footballs and GH₵100.  

Fostering unity through sports  

The CEO of Bowmarie Resort, Mr. Emmanuel Bow, addressed the crowd at the closing ceremony, congratulating Wailers FC on their well-deserved victory. He highlighted the event's role in fostering unity and camaraderie among the youth, stating, “This gala has showcased the power of sportsmanship and the importance of community.”
