Zile steals show as Ramadan Fight Night ignites Aflao
The Border School Park, popularly known as CEPS Park, in Aflao, came alive last Saturday night as a thrilling night of boxing capped celebrations marking the end of Ramadan.
On the Ghana-Togo frontier, fans packed the venue for the 2026 Ramadan Eid Fight Night, a high-energy showcase featuring some of the nation’s brightest prospects alongside fighters from across West Africa.
Organised by Sadik Akake Promotions in collaboration with Aflao Customs Park, the event delivered 15 bouts involving boxers from Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin and Senegal. The promotion continues to underline its ambition of developing talent while positioning the Volta Region as a hub for boxing and sports tourism.
The headline act belonged to former UBO International super bantamweight champion John Zile, who produced a devastating performance to stop Razak Nettey in the fourth round.
It marked Zile’s second victory in as many weeks, following his third-round stoppage of Kamarudeen Boyefio in Koforidua earlier this month — a statement run of form that signals a fighter in relentless pursuit of bigger opportunities.
“It’s the grace of God for this victory tonight — it’s a step in the right direction. My dream is to be a world champion, and I’m always ready to fight the best in the division,” Zile told Graphic Sports about his ambitions.
He again called out rival Samuel Martei Laryea, a former UBO Africa super bantamweight champion, in what promises to be a mouth-watering domestic showdown.
Also stealing the spotlight was Shakul Samed, fresh from his appearance at the 2025 WBC Grand Prix, who made a destructive start to his year. His punishing body shots proved too much for Edem Bika, forcing a stoppage just two minutes and 15 seconds into the opening round.
In the heavyweight division, Joseph “Junior Bazooka” Antwi continued his frightening rise, extending his perfect record to five wins from five fights — all by knockout — after a third-round TKO victory over Burkina Faso’s Patrick Soutoke.
There were further stoppage wins for Nii Ofei Dodoo, who halted Daniel Adjato in the fourth round, while Philip Tetteh Ayeh dispatched veteran Isaac Paa Kwesi Ankrah inside two rounds.
The international bouts also delivered their share of drama. Abdul Rashid Tagoe dominated Boniface Kabore of Burkina Faso, while Benin’s Dossou Faustin Houenou overcame George Amuzu.
Daniel Amomba secured a stoppage win over Senegal’s Diarga Balde, and Ebenezer Annan recorded a TKO victory against Burkina Faso’s Yaya Mazu.
Elsewhere, Burkina Faso’s Mathias Napaongo stopped Salif Sambou of Senegal, Ghana’s Edward Akator knocked out Togo’s Tunde Roger Sarouna in the third round, and Isaac Ashalley sealed a third-round TKO win over Nathaniel Nukpe.
