President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Ghana and President of the African Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, has unveiled a Special Target Podium Medal Bonus for Ghana’s para athletes competing at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Under the incentive scheme, every Ghanaian para athlete who wins a medal will receive an immediate cash reward of £3,000 for gold, £2,000 for silver, and £1,000 for bronze.
“Our athletes have worked tirelessly to represent Ghana with pride. This bonus is our way of recognising their sacrifice, determination and excellence. We want every athlete to know that their achievements are valued, and we remain committed to supporting them in their pursuit of success.” Africans & Diaspora
The announcement comes after Zinabu Issah won Ghana’s first medal of the Games, claiming silver in the Women’s F57 Shot Put. She received a £2,000 award during a special presentation ceremony in Glasgow on Tuesday.
President Deen said the initiative was aimed at rewarding excellence and motivating athletes to achieve greater success.
He also urged the remaining members of Team Ghana to give their best, as teenage sensation Hayford Addai and 4-time Paralympia Botsio Nkegbe eye glory later in Glasgow.
“Wear the Ghana colours with pride. Every performance you deliver sends a powerful message that disability is never a limitation to greatness.” Africans& Diaspora
President Deen congratulated Zinabu Issah on her historic achievement, describing her silver medal as a source of national pride and an inspiration to young athletes and persons with disabilities across Ghana and Africa.
Looking beyond Glasgow, he announced that the Special Target Podium Medal Prize Scheme will be officially launched ahead of the LA28 Paralympic Games during a special Team Ghana ceremony in Accra. The event will also introduce the Follow My Athlete Scheme, an initiative designed to connect para athletes with corporate organisations, institutions and private sponsors to support their qualification journey to Los Angeles.
President Deen reaffirmed NPC Ghana’s commitment to strengthening athlete welfare, expanding corporate partnerships and building a sustainable high-performance pathway to help Ghana’s para athletes achieve greater success at LA28 and beyond.
