Ten Ghanaian university students have taken part in the 2025 edition of Huawei’s flagship global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, “Seeds for the Future,” held in Dongguan and Shenzhen, China.

The programme, organised in collaboration with Ghana’s Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, brought together students from the University of Professional Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ho Technical University, Ghana Communications Technology University, Data Link Institute of Business and Technology, and Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development.

Held from October 20 to 26, the week-long training assembled over 150 students from across the world, offering them exposure to cutting-edge technologies and practical sessions in 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, and Smart City systems.

The Ghanaian participants toured Huawei’s Sanyapo and Xicun campuses in Dongguan, visited smart photovoltaic sites, and explored the company’s advanced research laboratories and exhibition halls. They also visited leading technology firms in Shenzhen to learn about innovations in drone technology, gaming, and the broader digital economy.

Beyond technical training, the students were given the opportunity to explore China’s cultural heritage through a visit to the Shenzhen Museum. They also participated in the Global Village cultural exchange event, which featured students from ten countries, including Ghana, showcasing their traditions and building cross-cultural connections.

Huawei described the programme as part of its global mission to “build bridges across nations through technology and collaboration.” The initiative seeks to nurture digital talent, promote innovation, and encourage participants to apply their learning to real-world challenges in their home countries.

Since its introduction in Ghana in 2015, Huawei’s “Seeds for the Future” programme has trained more than 300 Ghanaian students from various tertiary institutions. It is designed to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry while equipping young people with the skills needed to drive digital transformation.

The 2025 edition, according to Huawei, has further deepened participants’ understanding of emerging technologies and enhanced their appreciation of global cooperation in science, technology, and sustainable development.
