The bank has consequently presented a cheque for GH¢5,000, out of a pledged GH¢25,000, to the alumni association of the university to be used to fund the completion works.

The rest of the money is also to be used to construct a Mother’s Wing at the Legon Hospital to cater for mothers whose children are admitted at the facility.

The gesture by Access Bank forms part of its commitment to support the education sector as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) to the country.

The bank revealed its intentions towards the university at its annual alumni association fund raising ball in Accra recently.

The event, which also marked the association's 65th anniversary, was attended by distinguished dignitaries, including the President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, and Professor Kwesi Yankey, the Chairman of the association.

President Mahama, who received the donation on behalf of the association, expressed his gratitude to Access Bank for rising to the occasion once again and noted that their financial contribution would be useful in transforming the university into a world-class institution.

The Managing Director of Access Bank Ghana, Mr Dolapo Ogundimu, said the bank was committed to home-grown partnerships that would develop institutions of higher learning to be competitive and marketable on the world stage.

"Over the last five years for instance, we have enlisted over 80 fresh graduates who have excelled from the country’s foremost universities into a four-month bootcamp, which prepares them for successful banking careers in the future," he said.

The university presented Access Bank with a plaque in recognition of its immense support to the school.
