Appolonia City to help bridge national housing deficit

Partners of the Appolonia Development Project have pledged to help reduce the country’s housing deficit, estimated at 1.7 million housing units.

That, they said, would be done through the project’s mixed-used and mixed-income urban development initiative in the Greater Accra Region.

The Country Head of Rendeavour, one of the project partners, Mr Holger Adam, said in Accra that his outfit was committed to bringing about the best quality urban development in the city of Accra and Ghana in general.

“We are creating the urban future of Ghana here and we are starting it today with our first residential estates and serviced plots,” he said.

He spoke to the media after an open day forum meant to introduce the public to the company’s  turnkey residential development in the country.

The project, the Oxford, is a 20-year phased development meant to house some 88,000 residents.

Insurance against ‘dumsor’

To help insulate the project from the country’s power crisis, Mr Adam said the partners had so far invested over US$4 million in power generation.

The amount was used to construct an electric sub-station to serve as back up to the national grid, he explained.

He added that the sub-station was meant to serve the power needs of the first 4,000 residents at the site.

“We are not doing this for ourselves but for Ghanaians who are dreaming of a peaceful location that they can build theirown houses,” he noted.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Appolonia Development Company (ADC), Mr Anthony Okyere, encouraged the attendees to come in and build their dream houses at Appolonia, and added that such people would not regret.

He assured the public that the company was going to work around the clock to produce a peaceful atmosphere that buyers would never regret investing their monies in.

“We offer a range of options for residential buyers whether they want to buy a plot to build their own houses at our Nova Ridge development or an off-the-shelf option from the Oxford,” he noted.

He also made it known to the public that proper demarcations had been made for schools, playgrounds, shopping centres, hospitals and other social amenities that would make the place heaven on earth for them.

An attendee at the event, Mr Samuel Akan, was full of praise for the ADC.

He commended the company for the speed of work on the site and expressed the hope that the project would be completed on schedule for the benefit of customers.

In addition to providing homes for some 88,000 residents, the Appolonia Project is also expected to serve over 30,000 day visitors.

It would also create thousands of jobs during and after completion. — GB
