Dwadifo Adanfo gives towards scientific confab

A savings and loans company, Dwadifo Adanfo, has presented a cheque for GH¢5,000 to the Pathology Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital towards the organisation of the 7th annual scientific conference at the auditorium of the School of Medical Sciences, University of Cape Coast from August 25 to 30, 2013.

The conference aims at strengthening laboratory quality management in the West African sub-region for accreditation and updating residency training in pathology.

The six-day workshop would also identify diagnostic issues in dermatology and principles of management of cervical cancer screening programme.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dwadifo Adanfo, Mr Charles Amonoo, the donation last Friday, at the office of the Pathology Department was in response to a call by the department for support to successfully host the event.

“We are committed to the development of science and progressive research in the country and this is our widow’s mite to ensure the conference comes off successfully”, he stated.

Professor Edwin Kwame Wiredu and Dr Lawrence Adusei of the Pathology Department, who received the cheque, expressed gratitude to Dwadifo Adanfo for the gesture and noted that personnel at the department were not only confined to the examination of dead bodies to find out cause of death.

“We undertake extensive research in the laboratory and pathologists are the final arbiters in cases of surgery and laboratory testing”, Professor Wiredu told the Daily Graphic.

Dr Edusei said the conference would also formalise agreements between the West Africa Division of the International Academy of Pathology (WADIAP) and the government for the construction of a pathology school for continuous professional development in the country.
