The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has welcomed Edward Abambire Bawa as its new Chief Executive Officer.
In a statement signed by the Manager of Corporate Affairs, Eric Pwadura, the new CEO expressed his commitment to enhancing operational efficiency, driving innovation, and promoting sustainability to position GNPC as a key player in Ghana’s energy sector and Africa’s energy transition agenda.
GNPC, established as a state-owned entity and operating on a commercial basis, is guided by PNDC Laws 64 and 84. The corporation’s vision is to become a leading global oil and gas company with a profound impact on the quality of life of Ghanaians.
Mr Bawa succeeds Joseph Dadzie, who served as CEO until January 16, 2025.
The statement highlighted that Mr Bawa brings more than two decades of experience in energy policy, management, and public service.
"A distinguished leader and energy sector expert, he is currently pursuing a PhD in Global Energy Policy at EUCLID University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Cape Coast and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Liverpool," the statement read.
Prior to his appointment, Mr Bawa served as the Member of Parliament for the Bongo Constituency from 2017 to 2025, where he played a pivotal role in shaping energy legislation and policy. He was a member of the Parliamentary Committees on Mines and Energy, as well as Communications, contributing significantly to Ghana’s energy reforms.
Mr Bawa’s experience also includes his role as a communications consultant for the World Bank’s oil and gas capacity building project at the Ministry of Energy. In this position, he spearheaded stakeholder engagement and public advocacy for critical energy initiatives.
Additionally, he is certified in petroleum revenue management, upstream agreements, and energy commercialisation. His leadership extends to technical and advisory roles on various energy committees and task forces.
The new CEO envisions GNPC as a corporation that delivers measurable impact through strategic partnerships, workforce empowerment, and cutting-edge technologies.
As Mr Bawa assumes his new role, arrangements are being made for him to engage stakeholders in the coming weeks. GNPC has called on all staff, partners, and stakeholders to extend their support and cooperation to ensure the corporation achieves greater success under his leadership.
