In an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic last Friday, the Managing Director (MD) of the company, Mr William Olmstead, said some taxes on imported raw materials were likely to collapse their business.

“We need to start buying made-in Ghana goods, we need to start thinking Ghana, we need to start growing local industry and avoid importing cheap products overseas,” he explained.

The company for about three decades, supplied furniture to many institutions, including ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs),but  was off the scene for about 10 years.

Its operations were suspended because of challenges with its management, and remuneration to its workers.

Mr Olmstead said the company had repositioned itself on the Ghanaian market and was ready to provide its customers with quality furniture.

Success

He said for the first three months this year, the company had received revenue equal to the total revenue accrued in 2015.

That, he attributed to a change in management, and motivation offered to workers.

He,however, declined to provide specific figures  of the company’s operations for first quarter of this year.

Mr Olmstead said for his company  to compete effectively  with its foreign counterparts, it was necessary for the government to introduce certain incentives for local companies.

He assured the market, real estate developers, and furniture buyers that Furnart was back to give them best quality furniture.
