Ghana Stock Exchange supports COVID-19 Trust Fund
The Ghana Stock Exchange has donated GH¢100,000 to the National COVID-19 Trust Fund.
The Marketing and Public Relations (PR) Manager of the GSE, Mrs Diana Okine, presented the dummy cheque to the Chairperson of the Trustees of the fund, Justice Sophia Akuffo.
The donation brought to GH¢250,000 the total amount of funds that the exchange had so far used to support the country’s fight against the novel coronavirus.

The GSE, which is a platform for investments, had earlier donated GH¢150,000 to the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund to enhance its efforts towards the construction of a hospital in Accra to fight infectious diseases.
Elitist entity
Justice Akuffo thanked the board and the management of the GSE for the gesture, which she said came as a surprise to the fund.
She stated that the GSE had been perceived as an elitist entity that comprised persons in the upper end of the society
As a result, she said it was heartwarming that the company would support an initiative such as the trust fund meant to marshal resources to enhance the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
She used the opportunity to encourage other corporate institutions and organisations to emulate the gesture by the GSE by supporting the fund with resources.
Essence of support
Mrs Okine of the GSE said the raging nature of the virus required that the entire country united to contain its spread and minimise the impact on lives and businesses.

She said the exchange also saw it “prudent to support the government to curb the pandemic.”
She said the operations of the GSE survived on the health of the people and the economy, hence the need for the exchange to support every effort that would help to restore health and minimise the pain from the virus.
“This is a pandemic that affects everybody and as you know, our clientele is made up of the Ghanaian populace. If Ghanaians are healthy, it means that we will get happy and healthy investors,” she said.
The Marketing and PR Manager of the GSE said the exchange was hopeful that its support would combine with efforts by the government and other corporate institutions to contain the virus, deliver a healthy nation and return the economy back to prosperity.
