GOtv slashes decoder prices

Gotv, a digital terrestrial television service, has slashed the prices of its decoders by 50 per cent to attract more viewers into the digital television space.

The General Manager, Mr Kingsley Winfred Afful, said at a news conference in Accra last Thursday that the promotion, dubbed “Gyewo99” to wit, “take your99”, would start from July 1, 2017, which would see decoders from GH¢175 selling for GH¢99.

He said the price cuts would affect the GOtv Lite, Value and Plus packages, which had monthly subscriptions of GH¢9, GH¢18 and GH¢45, respectively.

He added that “the new decoder price comes with one month viewing of the GOtv plus package and a standard GOtv antenna”.

Reason for reduction

The general manager said the move was meant to create a new viewership experience.

According to Mr Afful, GOtv had been in existence for five years and had decided to excite its viewers across seven regions of the country.

Promotion timeline

Mr Afful did not give any timelines when the promotion would end, saying “the promo will continue while stock lasts.”

He stressed that the reduction would not affect the quality and number of programming on the network.

Challenges

Touching on some challenges in transmission, the general manager said that they had been experiencing frequent interferences from other terrestrial television stations but explained that they were trying to reach a workable solution.

The Public Relations Officer of GOtv, Nii Amah Dagadu, led journalists to tour the completed sections of the company’s six-storey edifice.
