Hub500 initiative to grow businesses launched in Bolgatanga

An initiative known as Hub500 with the aim of providing flexible work space and bringing together small scale businesses to network and expand so that they can become sustainable in the Upper East Region has been inaugurated at Bolgatanga.

The initiative is the first of its kind to be established in the region and the idea of its establishment was mooted about ten years ago by its Founder,Mr Frank Adabre Akasoba. Mr Akasoba is also the Chief Executive Officer of Northlite,a private Ghanaian owned Renewable Energy Service Company working across West Africa.

Briefing the media during the inauguration of the Hub500, the Founder explained that the initiative has a mission to be the first provider of flexible work space solutions in northern Ghana with a vision to create opportunities for businesses.

According to him, the Hub500 operates around three thematic areas, to provide co-working space, networking and equity access for small scale businesses to grow in the North.

“We also want to use this facility to reach out to particularly female entrepreneurs and provide them with networking to grow their businesses," Mr Akasoba further observed.

He appealed to government to complement the efforts of the company by placing much emphasis on providing an enabling environment for businesses in the Upper East Region to grow since the Region is peculiar.

“We should not always look outside the country for help but if we can create opportunities here for our small scale businesses to grow then we need to do that," Mr Akasoba intimated.

He said the Hub500 is targeted at identifying about 500 businesses for a start whose activities do not pollute the environment nor create room for litigation.

The Founder equally advised prospective patrons of the facility that access to credit facilities or loans do not form part of the reasons for which the facility was created but much emphasis will be placed on networking.

Entrepreneurs

Some entrepreneurs who were at the inaugural ceremony agreed that the initiative was a novelty and will go a long way to help resolve some of the teething problems young businesses face at a fee.
