The bureau, which has an installed capacity of producing 30,000 cards per day, 600,000 cards per month and seven million cards annually also has the ability to personalise all kinds of chip and magnetic stripe cards needed in the business landscape.

At  the inauguration in Accra, the Group Chief Executive of Mobility, Mr Mohammad Abid, said the  focus of the company’s investment had been on installing the best technology in the bureau and also making sure that all equipment were state-of- the-art and most modern.

“Our commitment, our promise, is to continue bringing the latest innovation and the best practices in the payments space to Ghana, and we are sure that this will not only bring Ghana to the forefront of the payment technology space but also make Ghana a leader, in this space,” he said.

Technology, he said, played a key role in the lives of people and not just the financial institutions as it provided the convenience the consumer needed.

“We are living in a world today where technology is a part of our everyday life. It encompasses ordering food or a taxi online or via your phone, to transferring money using your mobile phone, without the need to go to a bank branch or the post office. It is all about convenience for the end user,” he said.

He said mobility was focused on exceeding customer expectations, and the inauguration of the centre was a testament to that effect.

“We are not only here to meet expectations but to exceed them. That is what it is all about today. Do more than what your customer expects. It is this principle that truly inspired us to conceive and build this personalisation bureau,” he said.

Mr Abid explained that with the new facility, the company would now give a fast turnaround time stressing that, “Today, banks are getting this service with a turnaround time of two to three weeks. We will bring it down to 48 hours.”

The bureau, he said, would be a one-stop shop for all financial, commercial and other card requirements as the company would manage everything from sourcing of card plastics to stationery, until the delivery of card to the end consumer.

The new facility

The Visa / MasterCard / Verve and EMP certified card personalisation and fulfilment bureau is housed in a 5,000 square feet facility at a location to provide easy access to all parts of Accra.

“Our facility can also provide other services such as card fulfilment, card packaging, card stock storage and management, data preparation and courier management. We also have a separate area dedicated to PIN mailer personalisation and fulfilment,” he said.

He added, “We also have digital kiosks that can do everything from cash handling to instant card issuance and live customer support through video call. There is also transaction security to prevent online fraud.”

Technology, key to banking

The Special Advisor to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Mr Franklyn Belnye, said technology in the financial sector provided speed, reliability and convenience to customers.

“I find what Mobility is about to do in the country as a very useful contribution to developing our financial sector,” he said.
