Owning property is valuable investment — Legal Director, HTS Construction says

THE Legal Director for HTS Construction & Dominance Properties, Alex Osei-Owusu, has said owning a property in Ghana is not only about having a place to stay but also a valuable investment opportunity.

For instance, he said the high accommodation costs, whether for short-term rentals or longer stays, made it lucrative for property owners to list their homes on platforms such as Airbnb, which allowed owners to generate income when they were not residing in Ghana.

That, he said, could help cover the costs of property ownership.

He was speaking at the launch of an exhibition to showcase Ghana as a prime destination for property investment in Accra.

Dubbed: “Ghana-Diaspora Home Purchase Expo 2024”, it will showcase a wide range of housing developments and investment opportunities aimed at members of the diaspora who plan to return to Ghana, especially those looking to settle or invest in the country.

The maiden event, scheduled for December 13, 2024, will feature developers, real estate agents, insurance experts, financial institutions and investment experts, who will offer insights into the current housing market and the best ways to make the most of available opportunities.

It will also highlight the potential for diaspora homeowners to earn passive income through real estate investments.

Connection

Mr Osei-Owusu said the initiative was modelled after successful homecoming events organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority, which focused on fostering connections between Ghana and its diaspora.

However, he said, unlike those government-led events, this platform was aimed at private sector operators who would play a crucial role in promoting Ghana as a destination for both investment and settlement.

“A key issue for many Ghanaians living abroad is the challenge of sending money back home for property development, only to face difficulties in seeing the projects completed.

“This platform will showcase ready-built properties, such as townhouses and apartments, offering a more reliable and secure way for people in the diaspora to invest in real estate,” he said.

The Lead Architect for HILEX Properties, Redeemer Kesseku, stressed the significant transformation of Ghana’s architectural landscape, reflecting the country's rich cultural heritage, its progress and aspirations, and its commitment to sustainable and innovative design.

“As the country continues to evolve, the future of its built environment holds immense promise, with architects and designers poised to shape a future that celebrates the country's unique identity, embraces sustainability, and inspires the world,” he added.

He encouraged members of the diaspora to seize the investment opportunities presented by the expo to acquire properties that would not only serve as homes but valuable assets.
