SIGA Management meets Asantehene

As part of its ongoing stakeholder engagement, the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) leadership team met with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace.

The purpose of the visit was to introduce Mr. John Boadu as the new Director-General and update him on the progress made since his appointment in December 2023. The discussions also focused on potential areas of collaboration with the Manhyia Palace.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Boadu briefed the Asantehene on SIGA's progress and emphasized their shared responsibility with the Ghana Revenue Authority to generate revenue for the country. He highlighted SIGA's efforts to improve the profitability and governance practices of state-owned enterprises under its purview.

He said, “SIGA is collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure that the entities under our ambit are profitable and adhere to good governance practices. For the past five years since our establishment, we have improved on the financial reporting and compliance of our Entities and increased their contribution to the National accounts by a significant margin.

The Asantehene commended SIGA's dedication and acknowledged the challenges faced by state-owned enterprises.

He emphasized the government's goal for these enterprises to benefit Ghanaians and encouraged SIGA to review the mandates of some entities, suggesting potential divestment or recapitalization where necessary.

He said, “government has invested a lot of resources into these entities to ensure that its citizens reap the rewards of these investments. SIGA must ensure the ultimate goal for setting-up these entities are fully realised.” 

Mr. Boadu expressed gratitude for the warm reception and pledged to keep the Asantehene updated on SIGA's progress, seeking his advice and support as needed.
