South African Airways pledges improved services

South African Airways (SAA) is poised to give its customers on the Accra/Washington route an enhanced value to make their travel more comfortable. The assurance comes on the back of the release of a brand new aircraft set to be introduced on the route within the first month of the year.

The Country Manager of South African Airways, Mrs Gloria Yirenkyi who confirmed this to the GRAPHIC BUSINESS in Accra said that “our intention is to sustain the interest our customers have in our service”.

“The new aircraft will boost the standards that the airline management stands for and it is our commitment to offer our cherished customers what they deserve on a sustainable basis,” she said.

According to Mrs Yirenkyi, since the introduction of the new route to Washington from Accra, there had been many successes recorded. She noted that with the new airline, the achievements would be sustained in a more positive manner.

New route

The new route was introduced last year to fill a gap that had existed for many years.

Normally, people flying to Washington were made to rely on other airlines, a situation which created some challenges for passengers because they had to connect either from Europe or other airports, including the John F. Kennedy (JFK) airport.

The Ghanaian community in Washington had craved for a dedicated airline from Ghana to enable the business people among them to connect easily to do business in Ghana.

Presently, SAA flies four times in a week and there are plans to increase the frequency in what is likely to be announced later next month.

The new aircraft

The first brand new South African Airways A330-300 has arrived as part of efforts by the airline to bounce back on a growth trajectory.

The aircraft, which arrived early this week, forms part of five new A330-300 aircraft on order which will enable the airline to expand its current route network and improve its efficiencies.

“A new aircraft arrival in our fleet is a special occasion and does not happen often. We are therefore very excited about the potential for growth the new arrivals will offer,” the SAA acting CEO, Musa Zwane said in a statement issued last week.

“Customers will be pleased with the latest-generation on-board amenities and other cabin features on the A330-300s.  They certainly offer customers an improved travel experience,” he said.

The A330-300s offer state-of-the-art technology, which are environmentally friendly, and are super-comfortable. Interiors are striking in warm, neutral colours and finishes to provide a comfortable, elegant, hospitable and relaxed ambience, leaving customers feeling well rested after long flights.

Interior design is upmarket and resembles the elegant surroundings of SAA’s airport lounges, where warm neutrals invite customers to feel at home.
