SSNIT launches biometric terminal

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has converted about 4.5 million folders and 80,000 paid files into an electronic medium in a bid to serve its customers better.

This means the Trust has scanned and digitised over 50 years administrative, benefits paid files, employer and member’s folders and numerous legacy files.

At the launch of the SSNIT Biometric Terminal (BT) in Accra, the Director General of SSNIT, Mr Ernest Thompson, said the Trust had also successfully re-registered over 1.5 million members biometrically.

To bridge the distance between the Trust and its customers, he said it had established a state-of-the-art contact centre to meet the needs of customers worldwide.

He said the company had also introduced Operational Business Suite (OBS) modules in contribution collection, registration, relationship channel management, benefits, fraud and administration.

The director general noted that the Trust had introduced electronic business suits to facilitate the operations of the Trust to help the management of its customer service.

“SSNIT has over the years operated manually but now the terrain has changed. Technology is driving the business of the company,” he observed.

Meanwhile, the trust has introduced the SSNIT Biometric Terminal (BT), a self-service point that is expected to empower customers to transact business with it easier.

Mr Thompson noted that only members and pensioners who had gone through the biometric registration could benefit from the use of the new BT service.

“With about 19 BTs spread across SSNIT branches nationwide, customers could now change contact details, lodge complaints, view nominees, view or print statements of account, apply for SSNIT portal identification and renew pensioners’ certificate,” he added.

In his welcome address, the General Manager in charge of Operations at SSNIT, Mr Laud Senanu, said the management felt the need to provide another avenue for SSNIT customers to transact businesses with the Trust without going through a service person at the branch.

“It is my fervent wish that our customers, from today, will utilise this service specially made for them for their convenience and only visit the branch offices for services that cannot be provided at the terminal,” he said.

He said the government was committed to ensuring that Ghanaian workers retired with dignified packages and so would continue to partner SSNIT to fulfil that promise.
