Subah targets data for development
An IT and telecommunications company, Subah Infosolutions, is developing a technology system that will generate, process and store accurate data needed by government institutions to undertake development projects.
Dubbed the “Digital Mapping and Property Addressing System”, the technology, which is currently being tested in all the 216 districts of Ghana, will also help gather various forms of information, including property, household, street names and addresses.
The technology centre will become a one-stop shop for national database and accurate data for effective planning.
Briefing the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications that paid a working visit to the offices of the IT firm in Accra yesterday, the Director of Subah Infosolutions, Mr Redeemer Kwame, said the technology would also help in waste management and aid the public to give accurate and reliable location of their residences to relevant agencies in case of emergencies.
The purpose of the visit was for the committee to have first-hand information concerning the operations of Subah Infosolutions.
Digital mapping
Outlining some of the components of the technology project, Mr Kwame said it would have a centre that would provide a 24-hour monitoring system.
“The system will also have the map of Ghana and panoramic imagery that will help scan the vicinity of people whose information is captured in the system,” he said.
Mr Kwame said the technology would make use of trained and highly equipped personnel who would be deployed to collect data from the public, adding “data collected will be encrypted and can be accessed by few top officials”..
So far, he said, permission to begin the project had been granted by the National Security and the Data Protection Commission.
Touching on the benefit of the Digital Mapping and Property Addressing System, Mr Kwame said it would aid in proper planning and decision making, increase revenue generation for municipalities and improve emergency services.
Among other projects being developed by Subah Infosolutions is the creation of a new digital-box-coding system to help Ghanaians to take advantage of the digital migration platform expected to be introduced this year.
Select Committee’s response
The Chairman of the Select Committee, Mr Fred Opare Ansah, who led the delegation, applauded the management of Subah Infosolutions for the efforts made to address some of the development challenges confronting the nation.
He said the technology system would create a platform for all government agencies to coordinate their activities and share information relating to the country’s development.
Concerning some of the technologies being developed by Subah Infosolutions, Mr Ansah said it would help the Select Committee to put in place the right legislations to strengthen their operations.
He, therefore, stressed the need for companies to position themselves for the future operations of the government.
