Telecel Group has entered into a landmark partnership with Huawei Technologies to modernise Ghana’s telecommunications infrastructure and accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda.

The two firms formalised the agreement through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in Shenzhen, China, on November 4, 2025. The partnership will drive the Telecel Ghana Rollout Project, a multi-phase initiative valued at approximately 70 million US dollars. The project aims to improve network performance and deliver next-generation digital services to consumers and enterprises nationwide.

Implementation of the expansion programme commenced in November 2025 and will proceed in phases, covering key regions across Ghana.

Commenting on the development, Telecel Group Chief Operating Officer, Malek Atrissi, said the collaboration with Huawei represented a major step in the Group’s mission to enhance Africa’s digital ecosystem.

“For Telecel Group, this MOU represents a significant step forward in our long-standing collaboration with Huawei, the Group’s strategic partner across its different markets. It aligns with the Group’s mission to advance digital infrastructure and innovative services in Ghana, aligning with broader efforts to expand connectivity and drive sustainable growth,” Mr Atrissi said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Telecel Ghana, Patricia Obo-Nai, also described the agreement as a defining moment for Ghana’s telecom sector, promising improved capacity and innovation for customers.

“This partnership marks an important milestone in our mission to deliver world-class digital experiences to our customers,” she said. “Huawei’s proven expertise and technology leadership will help us enhance capacity, reliability, and innovation within Ghana’s telecom landscape.”

Huawei, in its statement, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana’s digital ambitions through the collaboration. “We are proud to strengthen our long-term partnership with Telecel and to contribute to Ghana’s digital transformation. This MOU reflects our shared vision of building an intelligent, inclusive, and connected future,” the company said.

The agreement underscores both organisations’ shared goal of boosting connectivity, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable growth across Africa’s telecom ecosystem.

Telecel Group, an Africa-focused telecommunications and technology company, continues to expand its footprint across the continent, pioneering digital initiatives that promote inclusivity and economic empowerment.

The company, which recently completed the rebranding of Vodafone Ghana to Telecel Ghana, has pledged to make further investments in modern infrastructure and customer-focused innovations to strengthen Ghana’s position as a regional leader in digital connectivity.
